Abstract

The paper examines the accusation raised against Galileo on the basis of his teaching on sensible qualities. The theological analysis of the accusation, made in light of texts from Scripture, the Magisterium, and cardinal Bellarmine, shows that Galileo’s ideas are compatible with Catholic doctrine concerning the Eucharist. This would explain why the accusation did not carry through.
