Abstract

Cornelio Fabro has paid special attention to the thought of Johann Gottlieb Fichte, and has suggested a different and “dialectical” way to read him. On the one hand, he saw in Fichte a path following the way of “the principle of immanence” according to modern and idealistic philosophy. On the other hand, there appears the “philosophy of liberty”, which with a different framework, goes beyond the “principle of immanence”. With particular incisiveness, he exposes themes on liberty, the ego, and the will. This paper advances the interpretive hypothesis that Fichte’s thought influences Fabro’s meaningful meditation on liberty, the ego, and the will, which, characterizing the later phase of his research remains an important contribution to contemporary philosophy.
